Here’s me with Don McKellar (Star, Writer and Director of LAST NIGHT) and Art Hindle (Star of THE BROOD).

P4130726

What a great double bill - THE BROOD was shattering and still shit scary 30 years on. Really packs a punch even now.

And Don’s film is just beautiful - what an amazing final shot. And a great way to wrap up the Bloor fest.

Thanks to Peter, Victoria, Justin and everyone at the Bloor. You guys are the best.

Thanks to Peter and Colin for the trailers.

Thanks to Don, Leo, TIFF and the newly knighted David Cronenberg for securing the print of THE BROOD.

A great last night.

We may be back!

P.S. Thanks also to Silver Snail for the goodies, Graeme for the illustration, the dude who bought me the Junior Mints and the very lovely lady who gave me a Lindt egg. Very posh.

  • The Brood played in Chicago on Saturday night as part of the “Music Box Massacre”, a 24-hour marathon of interesting horror films. While guest of honor was Stuart Gordon (who introduced Re-Animator, From Beyond and The Black Cat), Art Hindle was also there to introduce The Brood and was there for several hours before and after, signing and chatting. I talked to him on-off for what must have been an hour and a half. He’s an interesting chap, and in conversation (and in his intro to The Brood), he had nothing but nice things to say about you and how great it was to have had it screened at the Bloor.

Edgar..love your work. I am a choreographer and sometimes director for stage and some film. I have and idea for a screen play that I think you would be great for…looking to connect with you… what is the best way to connect. Marlies

I figured the mints was the least I could do after you brought all these great movies to us and put up with people like me imposing on you with conversation. 😀

Also Edgar, if you haven’t already, you should come visit the Rue Morgue House of Horror (on a Tuesday or Thursday, when I’m interning there!) - I’m sure the Rue Crew would love to see you and, well, I’m a huge effing fan.

Apologies for the blatant soliciting, I’m hopelessly crippled by my inner geek.

Hey, thanks a lot for doing the screenings and giving Bloor some much deserved cult cred. it saves having to bus down to New York or Texas anytime I wanna see a decent film fest. Can you post that drawing they gave you, I didn`t get a good look.

Oh man, speaking of “The Room,” if you DO do any more Bloor screenings PLEASE play that deranged slice of awesome. I still weep nightly at the thought that I’ll probably *never* get a chance to see Tommy Wiseau’s nightmarish visage on the big screen. Make a dying man’s dream come true Edgar, because I just got the results back and I DEFINITELY have breast cancer.

hehe you look like youve won a competition - lots of happy faces!

yum so a lindt egg - posh indeed.. i love lindor (the round smooth lindt things).

at the opposite end of the film spectrum - have you heard about or been to see ‘The Room’?
it’s a bit of a cult bad film shown every month in LA, people shout ‘spoon’ at the screen? i just read an article about it.

    • KINGJONG

      He’s seen it.

      • edgar wright

Indeed I have. I even I got mentioned in the Entertainment Weekly article as one of its fans.

        • pieface

          thanks, and thanks!
          cool getting name-checked.
i would have been quite surprised if it had passed you by!
i read right to the end of the article (half expected to see your name), they only mentioned Michael Rousselet (a screenwriter) and Ross Morin (St Cloud State Uni).
the bits where people shout ‘who the f**k are you?’, and throw spoons must be hilarious.
          it sounds…unmissable.

Very, very jealous as I’m a big fan of both films. At least Cronenberg himself wasn’t there - if that had been the case my head might have exploded in sheer envy. I take it The Brood was the uncut version with the few seconds’ extra baby licking?

Come on Film Four, where’s the UK DVD for Last Night?!? My old VHS is full of tracking errors from being endlessly rewatched now.

    • angle

I second that emotion, looked everywhere for Last Night but it’s only region 1 or overpriced secondhand vhs tape dagnabbit!!!!

I cant wait to attend The Write Stuff one day. This one would have been a great one to go to. Why do I have to live so far away from where the action is. Nothing but kidnappings and drug wars where I live. Wait I guess that is Action. Gracias por todo las fotos amigo.
