The Wright Year by Joel Vallie

Okay, this is astonishing, mindblowing and deeply flattering.

Last year, I posted a picture a day every day.

Truth be told, I posted 525 Photos and 1 Video in 365 days.

It was as much a great exercise for me as it was fun to blog them for you on this site.

I’ve never taken many mementos of my film-making before, indeed I took next to no photos during SHAUN OF THE DEAD and HOT FUZZ. Or SPACED. Which in retrospect, saddens me.

I was determined to record the whole of last year and the production of SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, in painstaking detail.

Finishing it on Dec 31st was bittersweet. Part of me was happy to not have to think about posting something cool, interesting or facetious every 24 hours. But part of me also misses just taking photos on a daily basis.

So I have to thank regular poster Joel Vallie for this equally painstaking video that covers my entire 2009 in 8 minutes flat.

Every single one of my 525 photos, plus all the other material I posted on here - blogs, retro blogs, music videos, is featured in this incredible piece that Joel edited.

See my life flash before my eyes in high style in the clip below.

Joel, you’ve outdone yourself. Thank you so much.

You ended my 2009 blog in a way I could not have dreamed of.

    The last song in the video is “Go,” by Plumtree. You can find their fun video version of it on YouTube!
    I wasn't familiar with the third song, which I guess is by Brendan Canning, as Michestellar mentioned above. I'll have to check him out!

  • When ever I put up a video on youtube that uses songs from bands they take it down or they cut out the audio. Sense I don't own the rights to the songs I'm afraid it would be a waste of time putting it on youtube. Sorry, you could get realplayer downloader and you should be able to grab it off of Vimeo that way.

    That's what I was talking about! I'll join in with all to say nice job Joel! It is quite moving for all of us that followed the photos to see that condensed, and with that music - it must be HUGELY emotional for Edgar! Like a year's worth of fun, fatigue, happiness, frustration etc all crammed into 8 mins. Like one's life flashing before one's eyes! Literally, I guess.
    Reading the last book and watching the movie will be more enjoyable experiences because of this year of photos and videos. Thanks.

  • Joel, that was incredible. Awesome job. Whenever I start to miss the photo blog, I'll just watch that video now. It's so weird to see an entire year condensed to eight minutes, but you made it very enjoyable. Nice taste in music, too. A Fistful of Fingers, Plumtree, and Brendan Canning.
    Seeing how fun it is to look back has motivated me to start taking more pictures and bringing my camera along anywhere I go. Again, thanks for this. It was amazing!

It is wonderful to see all the photos from the past year shown in one video, allowing all of us who have seen Edgar's photos from day 1 able to relive them once again. Great work. I love it.

    Edgar: It was so much fun seeing your photos everyday during pre-production and while filming was going on. Definitely a bittersweet moment when it all came to an end, hehe. It was a fun ride.
