Awwwww. These pics are cute hehe. Are those real pics of Ellen when she was little?
Just finished reading volume 3 after buying it over the weekend…I need to buy volumes 4 & 5 eventually before 6 comes out…or at least before the movie comes out…>.>
I have a question for everyone out there in Scott Pilgrim land. I have never really been into graphic novels, but I’m very intrigued by this film. Do you think that if I read the books before the film or not will make the movie viewing better or worse….??
As a fan of the books from day one, following the making of the film has been an absolute pleasure for me. I’m sure I’ll be somewhat disappointed by the movie, but the books are still there and still amazing.
ha ha ha! Edgar, you are the king! XD
The rest of us are firmly perched on the edge of our seats in anticipation for release dates and the first promo trailer!!
the only thing about this movie that i am disappointed about is that i have to wait so long to see it
and edgar is the coolest guy eva to be blogging every day after he spent all day working
and not just text blog either hes making a photo video blog that alot of bonuses for us SP fans so thx edgar
“I’m sure I’ll be somewhat disappointed by the movie”. Why would you say that when the director is kind enough to take time and post things like these pics every day?
That’s what I have been wondering SarahA. I have a feeling (not that I have read the novels - yet) that both the novels and film will end up standing on their own two sets of feet, and possibly enhance each other, and at the same time have differences that will highlight how story-telling is different in the different media / art forms.
I imagine novel people will prefer the novels, and film people will prefer the film.
I am thinking about reading the novels to appreciate the film multi-dimensionally (ie for the film itself, and for the artistry and planning involved to keep it true to the novels. Respect for the work of authors / composers is admirable, I find, and is a humility sadly lacking in the industry).
Just for the record, it’s GRAPHIC novels, which means comic books
I’m sure it’ll be great whether or not you’ve read them.. Having red them will just make you squeal at the little details that Edgar and the crew are reproducing in the film, they’re being super faithful.
For me, the fun will be in seeing how the comic translates into live-action. The comic itself relies on ludicrous situations that work in any comic or cartoon, but what will that look like live-action? I’m having lots of fun just following this blog. Go ahead and read the books.
I’m not into graphic novels either, but I did read these so I would have an idea of what’s going on. I would recommend reading them first so you know the concept of the movie. I imagine that the movie will be much better than the books, but that’s just me speculating. Hope that helps!
I love the SP books, because they do things that only comics can do. I’m sure the movie will not do those things, but will do things only movies can do. My hope is that both works will stand on their own as satisfying expressions of their own, in their separate mediums.
By all means, read the books! They are awesome! And I’m sure the movie will be awesome too!
See the movie cold. Speaking as a huge fan of the books, I’m very jealous of anyone who will get to see this movie without knowing anything about it - it’ll be a blast! - and then you can read the books afterwards.
Wow, this is a very long stretch of replies lol.
I decided a few months back not read the books until I see the movie. Most of the time the books are way better then the movies and I just don’t want to know whats going to happen ahead of time..might ruin the movie somewhat…but on the other hand it might be fun to have read the books too. I figured this would be a better option because if I changed my mind..I can’t unread , oh and I have no money…;D.
Though I am a little jealous of all these people getting so excited over notes and stuff in these photos lol.
I love how honest and realistic you are Edgar because no matter what you do some fans will be upset about something or the lack of something.
I’m seeing the movie cold. I’m deliberately steering clear of anything to do with Scott Pilgrim so I can enjoy the film as a brand new experience. I vaguely get the sense that it has a similar plot to El Topo, but that’s about it.
holy crap! all those course codes are real for ontario high schools! brings back the memories. and the addresses of the places to buy tickets! makes me want to nip down there tomorrow. so glad this is local!
not exactly (ok not at all) related to your photo blog, but here’s a funny video from ‘funny or die’ - the Shining as you’ve not thought of it before..
I love all this detail put into a movie no one but the people who read the comics will see. Like Watchmen. This is going to go in and out without a whimper.
I’m definitely getting the vibe that this is going to be more of a Ghost World/American Splendor faithful to-the-source-material, awesome-in-it’s-own-right kind of film than some of the bad comic book adaptations we’ve seen in the past.
The attention to detail on this film really looks impressive. On the Lord of the Rings DVDs, Peter Jackson discusses all of the set/costume details that were included, even though he knew most wouldn’t even be captured on the screen. (One example I remember was having the INSIDE of armor inscibed with Elvish symbols, because he wanted Bernard Hill to see it right before he gave a long speech to get him in the right state of mind). He just wanted to create an atmosphere to help his actors get immersed in that world.
I’m getting the same sense with this film, at least from all of the pictures Edgar’s been putting up. Good stuff.
You must love the art department on this film - the attention to detail is fantastic. I get the impression you’re pretty big on getting all that stuff spot on. The props on Spaced, Shaun and Fuzz were brilliant too - and so many references just within the mise en scene!
These photos are class, I can’t wait till you post a blog saying you’ve finished filming, im really looking forward to the film & i already know its gonna be awesome
Hmmm, sometimes I am MORE impressed by a movie than by the book it is based on. Besides, no one here can say that they don’t see something new and different every time they enjoy one of Edgar’s productions. Happy Day!
Aw, they’re not playing with The Bicycles this time?
Woot!
holy crap the bicycles! YES!

Btw Edgar, are you & the cast going to Comic Con?
nice
Awesome details! Love it !
great snapshots of S+K

The pleasure’s all mine. Am sure you will be disappointed. Somewhat.
i’m torn. was tantalisingly close to the books on thurs.
think i will wait for the film now - more surprises!
and great photos of course edgar!
don’t worry Mr. Wright…
I will make up for Jonaas somewhat disappointment by being somewhat satisfied.
Positive mental attitude!!
the comics are bonkers and judging by the photos the film reflects this whole ‘what the hells going on’ feel.
The Books are Fantastic
and EW’s Movie will be too
ha ha ha! Edgar, you are the king! XD

Nono, he said WE’LL be disappointed by the movie. He’d say that because that’s Edgar. The Director.

dude i think its best u wait for the movie. see the interpretation and then read the graphic novels. You could at least read the first one though.

Production design, the unsung hero in every film’s existence.
So modest, so ninja.
Tamara Chan?
LOL @ Knive’s “Scott Shrine”! So perfect~!
holy crap! all those course codes are real for ontario high schools! brings back the memories. and the addresses of the places to buy tickets! makes me want to nip down there tomorrow. so glad this is local!
Awwww… Knives! i feel sorry for her, Scott was very mean with the poor girl…
Yes Yes Yes its all coming together perfectly.
Oh cool, Knives’ room! These are some brilliant pics.
Cera is making the awkwardest faces in those photos.
She’s in grade twelve but her courses are grade ten courses…
JUST LIKE ME!
And that’s not chemistry, that’s history..
Scott looks a little “I wish I weren’t here” in the photos. ;D
Someone must be on his mind…
These are seriously awesome! Love all the details like this!
I demand that Sex Bob-Omb / Crash and the Boys poster. Please?
Amazing attention to detail. Love it.
Kinda weird that I had a Miss Daughty for English…in Grade 10.
I’m very impressed that the bands we’re seeing here are, like the bands in the story, game references.
Brigitte is, despite appearances, a boy band.

i LOVE the attention to detail!! i’m so excited and happy that this is taking place it Toronto fo’ realzzz!
i think i’ll spend a lot of the time pointing at the screen saying “i’ve been there!”
rare occurance for a canadian…
This looks like the most devoted adaption of a graphic novel since Watchmen.
Can’t wait for the next video blog Edgar!

These details are spectacular. I love that Scott looks like he’s not super-comfortable in front of the camera. Or with Knives, I’m not really sure.

I seriously just lolled at “The Run Run Hurry Hurries”. What an obscure reference!
Hmmm, sometimes I am MORE impressed by a movie than by the book it is based on. Besides, no one here can say that they don’t see something new and different every time they enjoy one of Edgar’s productions.
Happy Day!
Yesssss, Ontario high school course codes! I was ready be be disappointed if the setting was changed from T.O. to NYC, but yay Toronto
How cute ^^
Youre putting so much detail into this, I feel like its going to be such an awesome movie full of nerdgasims. =D
The posters are horribley acurrate. LOVE IT!!!
