If you want to start on the books, I suggest the The Blue Lotus, Crab withe Golden Claw or The Secret of the Unicorn as starting books.
With the books, it doesn’t really matter what order you read them in. There are a few two part stories but generally, there is no important continuity issues over the entire series.
