As it happens I’m working on a massive exhibition and mini-fest launching in London in a couple of weeks, focusing on the film, history, imagery - and posters - of Hammer (film company, not the large-trousered sideways-dancing early-90s icon/buffoon).
Coincidentally, we’re working with Marcus - the author of the Hammer Glamour book Edgar’s posted up (he’s launching it at our gallery on 27th).
Come and have a look if you’re in town - we’ve got a rather big 800 sq ft wall given over to Hammer posters - from 1,000,000 yrs BC through to Dracula / Quartermass etc.
A really fascinating story Marcus told me - and we’ll be illustrating - is that back in the 60s, the Hammer execs used to pitch their film ideas with no script, armed only with a mocked-up poster. They would get an artist to sit down with them in Wardour Street; the artist would knock one off in an afternoon (a poster, that is); they’d then fly to LA; visit Warners or Universal; and, if the big guy with the cigar liked it, would be told how much money they had to make the film… 1million yrs BC was made this way - and we’ve got the before & after..
Obviously, this doesn’t necessarily make it your favourite poster of all time (Closer Encounters, probably, for me), but it’s pretty damn interesting - and a good pint opener at the pub.
Come along if any of you are in town - or come to some of our specially arranged screenings / events at Lexi and Curzon Soho…
I pre-ordered “Hammer Glamour” and it is fantastico! What is it about those 60’s/70’s ladies?
Hello there EdgarWright collective

I wonder what your favorite Film poster of all time is. Iv always been a fan of Clash of the Titans and Jaws.
I know what you did this Weekend Edga. Took a little personal time, eh, eh, eh… Eh!
Eh?
is that dry emoticon-esque, or are you genuinely baffled?
I think you’re working on a serious red head fetish!
I love how words like “filth” are associated with the British. XD
I see a red-head theme…
Everyone also asks do Blondes have more fun… what about Red-Heads?
That’s the same lady, yes? Not my special area, otherwise I’m sure I’d know who she is.
Not the same lady. The one on the right is Madeline Smith…

Yikes - there’s obviously a type.
I will check out the link.
Danke.
She’s nice.
I love the interviewer’s comment - “Don’t say that….. it spoils it”.
That’s a lot of boobs for one blog. I thought you were a leg man, Edgar! ;0)
Are you confusing me with QT?
I thought QT was a foot man? Anyway, I figured you for a leg man as you were going on about Alice Lowe’s ‘ace pins’ on the FUZZ comm.
Of course, she does have lovely pins indeed. And as one of my fellow commenters said, “She’s well fit,” to boot!
And she’s brilliant as Monkey on BOOSH. And on everything else she’s done, for that matter.
You are quite correct. QT is the Russ Meyer of feet.
no way - is the gangsters moll the same one as Monkey?!
they just showed that episode on Dave - 2 weeks running actually (most odd).
the Woollen Bullet!
“Carry On Blogging”
LOVE the poster!
