A Brief History Of Title Design

The brilliant website www.artofthetitle.com put together this potted history of movie and TV credit sequences. It’s excellent stuff and features many of my favourites, including my pick for the best opening credits of all time, 1968’s ‘Bullitt’.

Kudos to Ian Albinson for this excellent whistle stop tour through the years. And very happy for ‘Scott Pilgrim’ to sneak in there at the end.

Enjoy and count as many as you’ve seen.

  • great stuff. Was waiting to see Watchmen and Panic Room though. (and briefly wondered if kiss kiss bang bang would turn up… then figured it was too much of a tribute to stand on it’s own. probably. or something).

(briefly wondered if the Prisoner would show… then realized I was focusing too much on properties i dug)

For the sheer simplicity but complete brilliance, I wish they had included The War of the Roses. Still Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner’s finest hour as well.

  • I’m torn between ‘Citizen Kane’ and ‘The Thing’ for my favourite; both pretty well sum up perfectly what their respective subject matter is about. But I think I’ll settle with ‘The Thing’ because it’s so darn cool!

  • Really good titles list, my favorite, aside from Scott Pilgrim, would be Catch Me If You Can
