Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Arclight Poster

Friday April 2nd, 2010 - Attack The Block

Here’s me with my good friend Joe Cornish, the writer / director of the currently shooting Attack The Block. Thanks to the amazing Matt Nettheim for the picture, taken at 2.18am in a glamourous car park near fashionable Pentonville Prison.

So like most people on the internet I decided to be make a bunch of mischief with a bunch of porkies.

In the next 24 hours I will tweet a whole bunch of falsities. And one sole true tweet.

Then followed 12 solid hours of nonsense.

But which one was true?

After Avatar, How To Train Your Dragon and Clash Of The Titans, Scott Pilgrim will now undergo extensive reshoots to feature a winged steed.

Scott Pilgrim will be released in 3D cinemas, audience will pay 3D prices and wear 3D glasses. But (whispers) actual film will be in 2D.

Scott Pilgrim also features cameos from Bruce Willis and Governor Schwarzenegger.

Scott Pilgrim was shot in NYC doubling for Toronto. The CN tower and Honest Ed’s have been digitally inserted into the film at huge expense.

I just got more than six hours sleep for the first time this week.

Dwayne Johnson was originally cast as Scott Pilgrim and filmed half the movie before he had to drop out with a sprained elbow.

In Mission Impossible 4, @simonpegg’s character Benji Dunn will be replaced by Benji the dog to get the lucrative dog lovers demographic.

I was offered the chance to appear alongside Hugh Jackman and Will I Am in X Men Origins: Wolverine.

I have not read the Scott Pilgrim books, but plan to as soon as the film is finished. Have been busy. Hear they are good.

I am to direct a film where Emma Peel and Thor team up to save Earth. Behold the ‘Double Avengers’. (2D conversion)

I am responsible for 80 percent of the tweets about Justin Bieber.

I directed the San Francisco shots in McSpaced. See also: Golden Gate Bridge shots in The Room.

Exclusive Scott Pilgrim footage. http://www.vimeo.com/10090741

How to top that last one? Impossible.

It’s nearly noon, so time to stop my foolish April tweets before I get lynched. However…one of the last 13 tweets is absolutely true!

I shall take my secret to the grave.

(Maniacal laugh)

Find me on twitter here.

Here for old times sake is my very first collaboration with Mr. Michael Cera from way back in 2007 A.D.

Okay. Here the sonic caffeine that call themselves Anamanaguchi premiere the theme from the Scott Pilgrim video game at Pax East. With some of the visuals direct from the upcoming Ubisoft game from pixel art extraordinaire Paul Robertson.

I’ve heard some of their other new music and also seen the gameplay. It’s pretty insane.

You will like.

  • Apologies for the tardiness in posting, but here’s a round up of all the footage of the amazing Spaced flashmob from last Saturday.

The finger gun fights from SPACED 2.5 are still two of my favourite scenes I’ve ever shot.

To see all hell break lose like this, mere minutes from where we edited this very sequence is heartwarming indeed.

You crazy people, I love and adore you all.

Many of you went along to the Spaced Gunfight Flashmob in Trafalgar Square last Saturday.

Perhaps some of you really wanted to go, but couldn’t.

    Well, you are not alone…

    Enjoy.

Thanks to Antonio Piluso for this great video.

This is the second Scott Pilgrim rap in one week.

    Rather astonishing stuff.

This time it comes from Adam WarRock (from the War Rocket Ajax crew - top marks for the Flash Gordon reference) and manages to recap the first 5 volumes of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s books in 5 minutes of rhymes.

This rap was recorded just this weekend in anticipation of the final volume of the comic book hitting stores July 20th.

    Enjoy below…

And go here to show some love on Mr WarRock’s site.

Tomorrow night, BBC 2 brings us at the ungodly hour of 23.45, the pilot for the new show from Jessica Hynes and Julia Davies.

Also featuring the mighty Mark Heap and Kevin Eldon, prepare yourself for the dark majesty of…

The soundtrack for ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs The World’ is already jam packed with goodies, not least the aforementioned ‘Black Sheep’ by Metric. It’s all very exciting stuff and I’m looking forward to making love to your earholes.

Now, it’s worth stressing that given the embarrassment of musical riches that we have at the moment, we are not looking for more material for the film’s soundtrack.

But it would churlish of me not to link to this valiant effort to get on the OST.

See below for a musical plea from Chicago’s own Former Fat Boys, who describe themselves on their Twitter page as “the best hip-hop duo on Earth since Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff”. That’s some serious shit right there.

Enjoy their submission for the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack, ‘7 Evil Exes’ which is in the grand tradition of movie raps from Will Smith, Bobby Brown and Partners In Kryme.

Here it is, with lyrics after the clip…

And here, by kind permission of The Former Fat Boys is the crazy ass rhymes of ‘7 Evil Exes’…

Its crazy this girl’s got me wrapped around her little finger
She’s skating through my dreams, but i can’t say i’ve ever seen her
She’s got an attitude, she’s got a fantastic butt
But i’m playing with knives, so i just may get cut
Cuz these are the details of my precious little life
As i try to find a way to make it all work out right
Its like its all been paused and she just pushed the start
I can take on Ganon now, her potion refilled all my hearts
All these evil exes and no exits to run to
The old 1, 2 its only forward can’t go back no control z to undo
Cuz i got a crazy ex who’s slightly underage, filled with rage
Obsessed with my sex bob-omb on and off the stage
And what i lack in confidence, i make up in spazz
And when of flying array of demonic hipster chicks attacks
I’ll just reflect their blast, send it back
    Cuz i’m that smooth
    I guess i can’t lose
    I’ll fight these bad dudes

    cuz she’s got 7, 7, 7
    evil ex boyfriends
And they’re coming and i’m running
    And i’m trying to defend
    Her honor and her life
Cuz i’ve never lost a fight
And I ain’t gon start tonight
They’ll drop hard when i hook right

    cuz she’s got 7, 7, 7
    evil ex boyfriends
    And they’re villians, super villians
So this just might be the end
So i grab on to her hand
    Jam out with my band
It may look like i’m losing but
That’s all part of the plan

This must be punishment for my seven deadly sins
That i committed cuz a little envy’s doing me in
Like i’m samson, she’s delilah, i get a new haircut i die cuz
That’s my weakness and this week is not my week cuz i am sleepless
Between, lisa, envy, knives, kim, ramona, and winifred
And 7 evil exes i’m worried my destruction is imminent
I need lives unlimited, cuz i need wins not useless points
With no bus fare, a long walk home unless i score me some coins
Cuz i just wanna say i love you like i’m mario she’s peach
But i’m feeling like a toadstool just staring at my feet
And i keep getting letters spelling my impending doom
But i just throw em in the trash cuz i am about to go boom on her

    7, 7, 7
    evil ex boyfriends
And they’re coming and i’m running
    And i’m trying to defend
    Her honor and her life
Cuz i’ve never lost a fight
And I ain’t gon start tonight
They’ll drop hard when i hook right

    cuz she’s got 7, 7, 7
    evil ex boyfriends
    And they’re villians, super villians
So this just might be the end
So i grab on to her hand
    Jam out with my band
It may look like i’m losing but
That’s all part of the plan

Its like i’m embattled in an epic quarrell
It’s like I’m jonathan strange but there’s 7 mr. norrells
It’s like playing contra without 30 lives, I’m a die
Mission impossible and I’m tom cruise now, not 95
    I can’t win, there’s an ex girlfriend now i can’t hit a chick
Where do you punch ‘em, can’t kick her ass, can’t punch her tits shit
If only i could find it, on this subspace road, a cheet code
For something from the gilded house of flying burritos, mmm burritos
I’ll use my bass guitar to whoop that vegan’s ass
Manipulating sound waves like the boys and crash
And i’ll take down that famous actor and score his autograph
And if she lets me grab her boobs i’ll have the last laugh on her

    7, 7, 7
    evil ex boyfriends
And they’re coming and i’m running
    And i’m trying to defend
    Her honor and her life
Cuz i’ve never lost a fight
And I ain’t gon start tonight
They’ll drop hard when i hook right

    cuz she’s got 7, 7, 7
    evil ex boyfriends
    And they’re villians, super villians
So this just might be the end
So i grab on to her hand
    Jam out with my band
It may look like i’m losing but
That’s all part of the plan

Well there you go! They totally rhymed ‘crash’ with ‘vegan’s ass’. Much respect. If you enjoyed do give the @formerfatboys a big up on their Twitter.

Again, we are not asking for or soundtrack submissions, but I thought it would be fun to post this one for your entertainment.

    Until next time.

Don’t say I hold back on the goodies.

If you head over to the Facebook page of the fantastic Toronto band Metric, you can hear a sneak preview of a song they recorded for the soundtrack of ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs The World’.

The track in question is the amazing ‘Black Sheep’. It was written during the sessions for their recent ‘Fantasies’ album and has been part of their live set of late.

I was thrilled that they agreed to record it for use in my film. It’s a monumental tune.

Here’s what Metric have to say about it.

Last year our genre smashing director friend Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) told us he was working on a new movie called “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” starring Michael Cera and asked us if we’d be Interested in working with him and legendary Radiohead producer Nigel Godrlch on some music for the film. Of course, we said YES!

It just so happened we had the beginnings of a song at suited the project perfectly from our early “Fantasies” recording sessions at Bear Creek, and that song became a pivotal track in the movie, which centers around a young group of musicians.

Become a fan of METRIC on Facebook to unlock an exclusive sneak preview stream of the final version called “Black Sheep”.

    Death Wish (1)

In the original and really rather good instalment, mild mannered architect Charlie Bronson has his family wiped out by NYC scum. With grim results.

    Death Wish 2

In the second and really quite repellent instalment, hard bitten architect Charlie Bronson has his new wife, daughter and housemaid wiped out by LA scum. With exceptionally grim results.

    Death Wish 3

And showing tomorrow, the third and really quite ghetto fabulous instalment. In this one, tough as nails, former architect Charlie Bronson avenges some friends of friends that have been wiped out by Lambeth-doubling-for-NYC scum.

    With mind bogglingly violent results.

You simply have to be there.

Although do not attempt a drinking game whenever a goon is shot. You will die.
